DESCRIPTION
EGTH is not just an art project – it is a profound, transformative artistic health and wellbeing experience that bridges the realms of art, self-awareness, and positive behavioral transformation. In a world yearning for reconnection, introspection, and healthier living, EGTH is essential – to inspire, empower, and change lives.
Not just a composition with depth but a cultural work with gravity – one that can live across media and generate long-tail engagement.
Arts-for-Change.
DEVELOPMENT
Made in Bendigo. An original work designed and directed by David Gagliardi with the support of 11 organisations, 36 individual donors and a team of 27 diverse collaborators working across theatre, animation, film, UX design, product design, gaming, post-doctoral research, health and innovation.
SYNOPSIS
Both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Six characters at their final moments of life.
Speechless, wordless. Dark but beautiful. An intimate journey about life and death.
EGTH is as many stories as people who experience it.
EGTH 1.0 (2020-2022)
A pause. A slowing down. A space for reflection. A quiet, gentle contemplation which continues to have profoundly positive effects on test-audiences.
Originally conceived as a live-stage work, the following components of EGTH 1.0 are complete and ready for presentation and release:
- LIVE-STAGE VERSION – Combines live performance, illustration, animation, multi-screen video art, sound design, lighting design and a composition for 6 pianos.
- FILM – A film of the original stage version: a large-scale invitation only event staged at Ulumbarra Theatre.
- ALBUM: MUSIC FOR 6 MECHANICAL PIANOS – Original Demos.
- MIDI – Complete MIDI files for the entire work – enabling reinterpretations, electronic reworkings, and new adaptations.
- SHEET MUSIC – Professionally typeset full score and six individual piano parts ready for publication, distribution, or performance.
LIVE-STAGE VERSION
On stage, the backdrop is a floor to ceiling video screen. In front of that, the six (upright) pianos, backs facing the audience, are lined up across the stage forming a wall of sound and acting as six individual screens.
The animations depict each character’s final moments. Each animation is then followed by a musical elegy, a composition for six pianos supported by multi-screen video art and lighting design, which extends the narrative and provides space for us to feel, reflect and think about ourselves, our close relationships and our lives.
CONCEPT TOURING (LIVE-STAGE VERSION)
With environmental impact in mind, this work has been designed in a way that makes it possible to tour without people or ‘stuff’.
Using Qlab, ETC and MadMapper, all video art, animations, lighting and soundscapes are synced to a click track and fully automated. Whether it’s Perth, Prague or Portland USA, in this scenario we can supply the show files, digital copies of the score, stage and lighting plots, and the presenter supplies the pianos and local pianists. The wordless nature of the work means language is not a barrier either.
This option allows the work to be presented nationally or internationally at almost any time. It provides presenters an opportunity to place their local performers on stage, allowing the work to be international and hyper local at the same time.
EGTH 2.0 (2023 & 2025)
Coming Soon. EGTH 2.0 reimagines EGTH as a month-long multi-modal program of events, for modern and innovative venues, including immersive pre and post show experiences, interactive exhibits and ancillary events. The vision is for a coming together of multiple partners across a diverse range of industries for a major health and wellbeing event.
- MUSEUM – Museum Style immersive new media experience including pre and post “show” experience and ancillary events, designed as a 1.5-2hr journey.*
* Pending finance and partners.
egth 3.0 (2026 and beyond)
Sound Recordings: At the heart of EGTH lies the composition itself – a spatial composition conceived to exist in multiple forms, each exploring a different dimension of its sonic architecture.
Together, these six iterations demonstrate the versatility and depth of the composition – each one a standalone artistic statement and a strategic step in a larger ecosystem.
- ALBUM: MUSIC FOR 6 MECHANICAL PIANOS – Original Demos (ready for immediate release)
- ALBUM: MUSIC FOR 6 MECHANICAL PIANOS – Spatial Audio Recording*
- ALBUM: MUSIC FOR SYNTHESTRA – Orchestral Version (Software Instruments)*
- ALBUM: MUSIC FOR ELECTRONICS – Reimagined*
- ALBUM: MUSIC FOR 6 PIANISTS – Signature Artist Edition*
- ALBUM: MUSIC FOR ORCHESTRA – Performance & Recording*
* Pending finance and partners.
PARTNERS
Development of the work so far has been funded by Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria, Regional Arts Victoria, Creative Partnerships Australia, Australian Cultural Fund, Ulumbarra Foundation and the Besen Family Foundation.
Supported by Bendigo Venues & Events, Dirty Puppet, Emporium Creative Hub and Piano World Australia.
And the generosity of an amazing community of donors.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
EGTH is supported by a deep and unusually rich ecosystem of existing materials and opportunities that can serve future releases, campaigns, and collaborations:
- VIDEO ARCHIVE & DOCUMENTARY POTENTIAL – Extensive behind-the-scenes footage and interviews documenting the making of EGTH, material for a feature-length documentary or a series of short-form videos to accompany and support releases.
- VISUAL & CREATIVE ASSETS – Gigabytes of photography, sketches, concept art, production notes, and storyboards, a year’s worth of social media and storytelling that deepens audience engagement around the music and its world.
- INTERACTIVE & DIGITAL POTENTIAL – Interest from independent game developers keen to create a 3D digital translation of the original theatrical version, accessible online to a global audience. This represents a significant future avenue for EGTH as an interactive art experience, extending its life beyond recordings and performance into digital media distribution.
